Research

The overall scientific goal of PISCO is to understand how the California current coastal ecosystem works. At OSU, we approach this problem through the coordinated activities of five teams. These are: offshore (nearshore oceanography), onshore (intertidal community ecology), biodiversity (intertidal community structure), subtidal (kelp forest community structure), physiology (physiological ecology), and biogeochemistry.  Research results from all of these areas are integrated to help us understand the big picture, i.e., the dynamics of the nearshore benthic ecosystem.  Our policy team allows us to provide accurate scientific information about nearshore ecosystems to policy makers, resource managers, the media, undergraduate and graduate students, and the public.  Click on the highlighted text above or the links below to view photos or obtain detailed information about the individual projects of our lab.
